Biography of Walt Hibbard
Born a “buckeye”
in the great State of Ohio
over three quarters of a century ago, I completed my formal education in business administration in Oberlin,
Ohio. Those early years climaxed as I heard
the Gospel message for the first time and received Christ as my Lord and Savior in a Baptist church in Elyria,
followed by marrying the church secretary, a wonderful girl named Olive. The
Lord blessed us with two lively children, followed by foster care ministry for several years, resulting in the adoption of
two of these great kids. My wife passed away in 1983 and the Lord led me to another
lovely lady named Carolyn in 1984. We were blessed with a beautiful daughter
named Meredith. When Meredith was 10 years old, the Lord saw fit to call her
mother to her heavenly Home as well. Looking back over the years, my home life
was constantly God-blessed through many trials and difficult experiences.
My occupation was in the
field of accounting for a large company for 14 years, followed by gaining experience in the area of Christian bookselling. This took us to Kalamazoo, Michigan and
Chicago, Illinois, where I served on the staff of Moody
Press for 7 years. Moving to Delaware
in 1968, the Lord placed me on the staff of the Religious Book Discount House, followed by launching Puritan-Reformed Discount
Book Service in 1970 -- name later changed to Great Christian Books. This ministry
spread widely and served pastors, seminarians, students of various majors, and missionaries in many overseas locations as
well as the U.S.A. After
I relinquished managerial responsibilities and ownership by 1994, the company continued through the end of 1998. Since 1983, when Baker Book House was persuaded to reprint J. Stuart Russell’s THE PAROUSIA, GCB
was to become perhaps the largest distributor of preterist books up to that time.
More recently, I am finding
my retirement years filled with great opportunity to write some articles on preterist eschatology, and to serve as a part-time
accountant at the local pregnancy resource health clinic. Most of my children
and their families dwell nearby and my youngest daughter, Meredith, now entering her sophomore year at the University
of Delaware, is a constant joy and encouragement.
Praise God for His wonderful gifts!
